AOL Launches Bid to Get HuffPost Live on Canadian TV
The CRTC has received an application to sell Arianna Huffington's online news site to cable subscribers
Arianna Huffington's online video news service HuffPost Live could be headed to Canada.
The Huffington Post-parent AOL is backing a bid by a Canadian venture capitalist to get the streaming network onto TV screens north of the border. Kosiner Venture Capital is shepherding the application to the CRTC, the country's TV regulator, to add HuffPost Live to the list of foreign TV channels authorized for the Canadian airwaves.
The Huffington Post launched HuffPost Live in 2012. The digital video producer offers eight hours of live video news every day that is later cut into clips for distribution across The Huffington Post and AOL network.
The CRTC has invited public comments until January 19 for the bid to launch the free online service to paying Canadian TV subscribers. The regulatory application describes the online service, produced by AOL at The Huffington Post's New York City-based studio, as mostly news and lifestyle programming produced by HuffPo editors, reporters, bloggers and a wide online community.
