Apsara Distribution Signs Multi-Territory Deals for 'American Ultra' and 'The Night Comes For Us' (Exclusive)
IM Global's pan-Asian rights and distribution label Apsara Distribution has announced a multi-territory deal for American Ultra and The Night Comes For Us. IM Global is one of the leading foreign sales, financing and production companies and was founded by CEO Stuart Ford. Earlier this year, the group opened offices in Beijing.
American Ultra stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart and is directed by Nima Nourizadeh, written by Max Landis and produced by Anthony Bregman and Circle of Confusion. Apsara acquired American Ultra from FilmNation for nine territories in Southeast Asia: Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam and India. The deal was brokered by Rob Carney of FilmNation, Ben Rekhi of Apsara, and Darius Kapfer of DK Media.
The Night Comes For Us will be directed by Timo Tjahjanto and action director Gareth Evans, who directed the Indonesian horror movie The Raid, which did $4 million in Indonesia (a remake is currently in pre-production at Sony Screen Gems). As The Raid 2 is currently in post-production, Evans is now producing and co-writing The Night Comes For Us, while XYZ Films and Evans' PT Merantau Films will produce.
Apsara acquired The Night Comes For Us for the territories of Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia outside of theatrical, where Evans' distribution company will take it out theatrically. The deal was brokered by Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films, Ben Rekhi of Apsara Distribution, and attorney Lauren Wilson of IM Global.
Forthcoming Apsara releases include the Mark Wahlberg starring Lone Survivor; Solace featuring Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell; and Selfless with Ryan Reynolds and Tarsem Singh directing.
