Araki, Mechanic have Venice jury duty
EmptyROME -- U.S. director Gregg Araki and former Fox Studios CEO Bill Mechanic will each head sidebar juries at the upcoming Venice Film Festival, organizers said Monday.
Araki will head the jury selecting the two best films in the Orizzonti sidebar, devoted to films that illustrate new trends in cinema. Mechanic, meanwhile, will head the jury that selects the Luigi De Laurentiis prize -- the Lion of the Future award. The award, which carries a cash prize of €100,000 ($138,000), goes to the festival's best first film, regardless of the category in which it screens.
Organizers also announced that iconic French director-writer-musician Francois-Jacques Ossang will head the jury selecting the festival's best short film.
