Family and friends "are taking great care of me," says the soul legend, who is reportedly battling pancreatic cancer.

Aretha Franklin has been discharged from a Detroit hospital where she underwent surgery, possibly for pancreatic cancer, reports Reuters. The press-shy 68-year-old soul legend was released three days ago but the news was disclosed today.

The Grammy-winning singer has been in and out of hospitals over the past few months for undisclosed reasons that prompted her to cancel all personal appearances until next spring. She revealed in a press statement: "My family and friends who brought me home are taking great care of me. I also have a private nurse who visits on a daily basis."

Although it has not yet been confirmed by the singer, Detroit's local Fox TV station earlier this month reported that she was battling pancreatic cancer, the disease that took the life of actor Patrick Swayze last year.
