"I want John Kasich to be the next nominee of the Republicans and also to be the next president of the United States. Here he is," said Schwarzenegger."
Kasich responded on the video saying, "Thanks, Arnold. Love you, man."
The endorsement comes as Kasich is running fourth in most GOP primaries and caucuses and is facing a possible make-or-break contest in his home state of Ohio and the upcoming Michigan primary. Kasich failed to win any states during the recent Super Saturday caucuses and primaries and Donald Trump remains the GOP frontrunner.
During the Columbus rally, Schwarzenegger applauded Kasich's efforts when he was House Budget Committee Chairman for pushing through the first balanced budget "since the man walked on the moon," reducing taxes and creating more than 300,000 jobs.
Schwarzenegger expressed that he's been a fan of Kasich since he was running for Congress back in the '80s. When Kasich told him years ago he was planning to run for governor of Ohio, Schwarzenegger said he told him, "I'll be back" to support him again. "He was the action hero," said Schwarzenegger. "Right now, we need leadership like that ... we need John Kasich to take charge and be at the White House."
News of Schwarzenegger endorsing a Trump rival comes as he prepares to replace Trump as the next host of NBC's Celebrity Apprentice.
