ATAS sets ani diversity panel

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Diversity Committee will present "Diversity in Animation: Beyond the Color Bars," a discussion of diversity from drawing board to distribution.

The event, taking place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, will be hosted by Nickelodeon and MTV Networks Kids & Family Group at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank.

Following an opening reception, the event will feature a panel discussion with a group of professionals including Brown Johnson, president of animation at Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids & Family Group; Nancy Kanter, senior vp at Playhouse Disney Worldwide; Lisa Henson, co-CEO of the Jim Henson Co.; Ramsey Naito, vp longform development at Cartoon Network; Bruce Smith, president of Jambalaya Studios; Jorge R. Gutierrez, creator and executive producer of "El Tigre"; and Wilmer Valderrama, star of Playhouse Disney's "Handy Manny."

The discussion will be moderated by Reginald Hudlin, writer/executive producer of "Black Panther."
