Kristin Chenoweth, Jemaine Clement Cover 'I Will Survive' on 'Rio 2' Soundtrack (Audio)
The star-studded soundtrack for Rio 2 doesn't hit shelves until March 25, but Billboard has an exclusive stream of the Atlantic Records track list one day before its official release.
Among the 14 Brazil-inspired tracks are Janelle Monae's previously released opening number "What Is Love?," the catchy Ester Dean-B.o.B. collaboration called "Rio Rio," and two versions of Philip Lawrence's anthem "It's a Jungle Out Here," each sprinkled with tribal sounds and pop/hip-hop beats.
The soundtrack also features duets and ensemble songs by the film's voice cast, including Kristin Chenoweth, Anne Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, Jemaine Clement, Rita Moreno, Jesse Eisenberg, Andy Garcia, Bruno Mars and more, including a particularly vivid cover of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" that layers Clement's rap verses over Chenoweth's opera singing.
Rio 2 will follow Blu (Eisenberg), a neurotic blue macaw, and Jewel (Hathaway), his free-spirited mate, as well as their three kids. The conflict of the film arises when Jewel expresses her desire to raise the chicks in the Amazon as "real birds" rather than in their current domesticated environment. Leslie Mann, will.i.am, John Leguizamo, George Lopez, Tracy Morgan, Today anchor Natalie Morales and X Factor finalist Rachel Crow also appear in the film.
The Rio 2 soundtrack will be released March 25, while the film flies into theaters April 11. Hear Monae's number below, and for an exclusive stream of the entire soundtrack, head over to Billboard.com.
