Australian exhibitor the Greater Union Organisation will be honored as International Exhibitor of the Year at ShoWest, the motion picture industry convention set for March 10-13 in Las Vegas.

Founded in 1910 under the name of Spencer's Pictures, Greater Union operates 464 multiplex screens at 54 cinemas in Australia. It also has an interest in 134 screens at 11 cinemas through a joint venture with Village Roadshow.

Greater Union, owned by Amalgamated Holdings, also operates 555 screens internationally, with cinemas in the Middle East and Europe trading under the Cinestar brand.

"Greater Union continues to raise the bar and set new standards of excellence when it comes to providing its clientele with the very best motion picture theater experience possible," Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of ShoWest, said of the award, which will be presented March 10 at the ShoWest International Day Luncheon, co-sponsored by Imax and Nielsen EDI, at the Paris hotel. AHL Entertainment managing director Ross Entwhistle will accept on behalf of the company.
