Radiohead to Kick Off Austin City Limits' 38th Season (Video)
The iconic PBS concert series, premiering on October 6, will also feature performances by Bon Iver, The Shins and Bonnie Raitt in the coming weeks.
Beloved PBS concert series Austin City Limits (ACL) today announced the premiere of its 38th season. Radiohead will take the stage at ACL's new venue The Moody Theatre in a performance set to air on October 6. It's the British band's first appearance on the show.
The longest-running music series on American television, this season's lineup includes sets by Bon Iver, Bonnie Raitt and The Shins, while the annual Austin City Limits festival will feature The Black Keys, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Weezer, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Iggy & The Stooges, among others, at the sold-out three-day extravaganza on Oct. 12 through 14.
“We’re proud to continue the tradition of presenting a diverse, eclectic mix of some of the most original music being made today,” says ACL executive producer Terry Lickona. “One thing that hasn’t changed in the last 38 years is that ACL has a way of bringing out the best in an artist’s performance -- whether it’s a rising new star or a legend. This year is no exception.”
Since its debut in 1976, ACL has hosted over 800 live concerts and is one of PBS' highest-rated shows. In June, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum announced that 40 years of ACL footage will be digitally archived at its new library and archives in Cleveland. In 2009, the Hall also declared ACL a historic music landmark.
Thirteen episodes are scheduled for the 38th season of ACL. Watch a preview of Radiohead's episode below:
