Austin Film Festival Reveals 20th Anniversary Conference Slate
Callie Khouri will receive the distinguished screenwriter award, while Robert Rodriguez, Roberto Orci, Jenji Kohan and Dan Rather are among those who will be featured as panelists.
The Austin Film Festival on Tuesday unveiled its 20th anniversary conference slate, also announcing Callie Khouri as the recipient of the distinguished screenwriter award.
The Nashville creator, whose writing credits include Thelma and Louise and Something to Talk About, will accept her award at the fest's annual Awards Luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Austin Club. Past honorees have included Lawrence Kasdan, David Peoples, Frank Pierson, Eric Roth, Paul Schrader, Caroline Thompson, Bill Wittliff and Steven Zaillian.
Among the panelists featured this year are Robert Rodriguez and Roberto Orci, discussing their El Rey collaboration; Jenji Kohan, David Shore, Terri Edda Miller and Andrew Marlow as part of the Scribble-to-Screen panel; Dan Rather and Anne Rapp, addressing their upcoming doc on playwright Horton Foote; and David Lowery, Jeff Nichols and Richard Kelly on the state of indie filmmaking.
Vince Gilligan will also join Rian Johnson for a staged script reading of the Breaking Bad mastermind's unproduced feature screenplay 2 FACE. 42 writer/director Brian Helgeland will present a retrospective screening of Cool Hand Luke, joining the fest's previously announced compilation including Jonathan Demme, Gilligan, Shane Black, Jim Taylor and Norman Steinberg presenting various retrospective works.
The 20th annual Austin Film Fest runs from Oct. 24-31.
