‘Austin Powers’ Actor Convicted of Rape and Torture in 1990 Crime

DNA evidence connected him to the brutal attack.
Austin Powers actor and former mixed martial arts pro, Joseph Hyungmin Son, has been convicted of the rape and torture of a Huntington Beach, Calif. woman and faces the possibility of a maximum of 15 years in prison for the crime.
According to KTLA, the victim alleges that Son and another man brutally raped and tortured her on Christmas Eve in 1990. DNA collected from Son in 2008 as a result of a probation violation from an unrelated vandalism charge linked him to the crime.
Prosecutors say the victim, who was 20-years-old at the time of the attack, describes walking her dog on Christmas Eve when Son and another man abducted her, dragged her into the back of a car, pistol whipped her and threatened to shoot her. She also alleges Son and the other man repeatedly raped her, and sexually penetrated her with a firearm before letting her go in Compton naked with her pants tied around her eyes.
Initially, Son faced a maximum sentence of 275 years, which has been reduced to 15 years, because the statute of limitations had expired on several charges. A co-defendant pleaded guilty to the rape, kidnapping and other charges and was sentenced to 17 years and four months in prison.
Son is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 19.
He played Dr. Evil’s handyman, “Random Task,” in the 1997 film, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, starring Mike Myers.
