Average Movie Ticket Price Hits Record High
The $8.61 average price surpasses 2013's second quarter high of $8.38.
The average cost of going to the cinema in the U.S. rose to $8.61 in the second quarter of 2015, the highest average ticket price to date.
It's a 3.36 percent increase from 2014's Q2 average of $8.33 and beats 2013's second quarter record-high of $8.38.
It's also up from Q1 2015, which was $8.12. The increase is due to a big summer chock-full of 3D films and the growth of premium large format theaters.
The top domestic earners for the second quarter were Universal's Jurassic World, which has earned north of $612 million and Avengers: Age of Ultron, which has taken in $456 million in the U.S. Furious 7, Inside Out and Pitch Perfect 2 round out the top five domestic films of quarter two to date.
