The average cost of going to the movies in North America clocked in at $8.25 for the third quarter of 2015, the highest ever for the July-September corridor.
It was, however, down from the cost of going to the movies in the second quarter of 2015, when the average ticket price hit $8.61, an all-time high for any time of the year. Ticket prices often rise in May and June, which are primetime for the biggest summer blockbusters.
The average ticket price for Q3 2015 was up 2.1 percent from 2015's Q3 average of $8.08.
With one quarter left to go, the average movie ticket price for 2015 stands at $8.34, compared to the record set in 2014 with $8.17.
The top domestic earners for the third quarter were Minions ($334.5 million), Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation ($194.8 million), Ant-Man ($178.8 million), Trainwreck ($110 million) and Terminator: Genisys ($89.8 million).
