The series stars a mix of film and social media stars.

Hulu has acquired exclusive streaming rights to Freakish, a horror series from teen-centric digital producer AwesomenessTV.

Freakish will debut on Hulu later this year as a 10-episode series that centers on students at a small-town high school who must fight for survival after mutants take over following a meltdown at the local chemical plant.

The project, which is currently in production, stars a mix of traditional and social media stars, including Leo Howard (Conan the Barbarian), Liza Koshy (Boo! A Madea Halloween), Adam Hicks (Zeke and Luther), Aislinn Paul (Heroes Reborn), Tyler Chase (The Walking Dead), Meghan Rienks, Melvin Gregg and Hayes Grier. The cast also includes Chad L. Coleman (The Walking Dead), Mary Mouser (Scandal) and Chachi Gonzales (America's Best Dance Crew).

"Our Gen Z audience craves binge-worthy, on-demand entertainment, which is why we're excited to be in business with Hulu," AwesomenessTV scripted head Shelley Zimmerman said in a statement. "Brian Robbins and I have had a long-standing relationship with Craig Erwich, and we look forward to collaborating with him and his team to bring Freakish to Hulu."

Freakish was created by Beth Szymkowski, who previously collaborated with AwesomenessTV on the series Runaways. The show is produced by Awesomeness CEO Robbins, ZImmerman, Beth Szymkowski, Matt Lewis, Chris Grismer and Scott Levine. The pilot was written by Szymkowski and directed by Grismer.

Hulu previously acquired U.S. streaming rights to Awesomeness Films projects Snervous, a documentary about YouTube star Tyler Oakley, and Janoskians: Untold and Untrue, a mockumentary from the Australian comedy group.

The pickup comes as Hulu has bulked up on its teen offerings, including Freddie Wong projects RocketJump: The Show and Dimension 404
