MEXICO CITY -- U.S. Spanish-language network Azteca America on Tuesday announced it has added a new television station in Portland via an affiliation agreement with Oregon-based Churchill Media.

Azteca America, owned by Mexican broadcaster TV Azteca, will launch KWVT-Channel 52 on July 30. Azteca America, which ranks third behind market leaders Univision and NBC Universal's Telemundo, said the growth rate of Portland's Hispanic population is more than twice that of the national average.

"One in every three new residents in Portland is of Hispanic origin," the company said.

California-based Pappas Telecasting Companies recently announced it has terminated its affiliation agreement with Azteca America in five markets.
