Though Lavigne's most recent album outsold the boy band's release last year, she will be the opening act on the tour, which begins on May 3.

Backstreet Boys and Avril Lavigne are linking up for a summer tour of North American amphitheaters. BSB announced the dates during an appearance of Good Morning America on Friday.

Lavigne's slot as the opener on the tour is more than a little dubious: Both BSB and Lavigne released albums last year, and while Avril Lavigne has sold 125,000 copies since November according to Nielsen SoundScan, In A World Like This has sold 110,000 copies since July. BSB has been on the road supporting In a World Like This since August, receiving support from artists like Jesse McCartney, DJ Pauly D and B5.
