Banff TV Fest gets new exec director

NextMEDIA's Mark Greenspan to step in on interim basis

TORONTO -- The Banff World Television Festival has a new executive director after Peter Vamos resigned following nearly two years in the top post.

Vamos, who was also vp of TV at festival parent Achilles Media, will be replaced on an interim basis by Mark Greenspan, executive producer of nextMEDIA, the festival's new media component.

Vamos' departure follows a virtual merger of the Banff World Television Festival and nextMedia, which now run concurrently at the annual June event, to attract a younger and more diverse attendance.

As traditional TV networks struggle to adapt to a changing digital landscape, Banff in recent years has seen fewer international TV players on hand as indie producers look to do more multiplatform content deals at the annual Canadian festival.

Vamos in December 2008 replaced Jennifer Harkness as Banff's executive director.

Harkness, who went to New York City to launch and operate Cross Media NYC with co-founder Gavin McGarry of Jumpwire Media, last month returned to Toronto to become head of factual and reality development at indie producer Temple Street Productions.

Before joining Achilles, Vamos was publisher of Playback Magazine in Toronto.
