Bankrupt NYC Real Housewife Blames John Travolta for $19.8 Million in Debt
Sonja Morgan is the second reality star in the Bravo series to file for bankruptcy.
Real Housewife of New York City Sonja Morgan filed for bankruptcy Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal reports.
According to court papers, Morgan, who joined the show in its third season, is $19.8 million in debt and has $13.5 million in assets.
"The decision to seek bankruptcy was not an easy one, but unfortunately, I am at a crossroads in my life," she wrote in her petition.
Morgan says she incurred much of her debt from a failed movie project with Hannibal Pictures Inc. called Fast Flash to Bang Time. She says the movie never filmed because its planned star, John Travolta, needed "various conditions" that Sonja Productions couldn't provide. Hannibal Pictures Inc. went on to file a lawsuit against Morgan's production company, winning a $7 million judgment.
Real Housewife of New Jersey Teresa Giudice filed for bankruptcy in 2009. She owed more than $10 million to her creditors.
