Barb Williams Named Senior VP of Content at Shaw Media

 

TORONTO -- Barb Williams, a veteran Canadian buyer at the Los Angeles Screenings, is to spearhead U.S. series acquisitions at Shaw Media, the newly-rebranded Canadian broadcaster.

Williams was named Wednesday as senior vp of content at Toronto-based Shaw Media as new owner Shaw Communications completed its $2 billion takeover of Canwest Global Communications Corp.'s TV assets.

That takeover includes the exclusive broadcast rights for Shaw Media to a host of popular U.S. network series, including Fox's "Glee" and CBS' "Survivor" franchise, acquired through long-standing deals with Hollywood suppliers like CBS Studios International TV, Sony Pictures Television International and 20th Century Fox Television Distribution.

Williams led Canwest Global's production of Canadian series and acquisition of U.S. and other international TV fare, and will do the same at rebranded Shaw Media.

Calgary-based Shaw also confirmed that Paul Robertson, a former TV topper at Corus Entertainment, will run Shaw Media day-to-day as group vp of broadcasting, and company president.
