Barry Levinson to make obesity doc

Film is part of The Spotlight Initiative for Creative Coalition

Filmmaker Barry Levinson will train his camera on obesity in the United States in a new documentary he will make for the Creative Coalition, which also produced his political doc "Poliwood."

The project, which was announced at Sundance on Tuesday, will be funded by GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare with both Levinson and the Creative Coalition retaining creative control.

The film is part of The Spotlight Initiative, which the Coalition describes as "a series of independent films with messages that make a positive difference in the world."

"The evolution of the obesity crisis in America is a fascinating and compelling human story. It's the hidden enemy within our borders that no one talks about," Levinson said.

As part of the project, the Creative Coalition hosted an event Monday in Park City, sponsored by GSKCH, which examined the role the entertainment industry can play in changing America's relationship with food.
