Ex-Bavaria Boss Thorsten Ritter Joins Beta Cinema
Ritter will focus on acquiring and selling English-language titles for Beta.
COLOGNE, Germany - Veteran sales exec Thorsten Ritter, formerly head of Bavaria Film International, has joined world sales group Beta Cinema as EVP of worldwide acquisitions, sales and marketing. Ritter stepped down at Bavaria earlier this year after the company merged with sales group Telepool to form Global Screen.
Ritter has handled several award-winning and cross-over successes at Bavaria, including Oscar-winner Nowhere in Africa, the German fall-of-the-Wall comedy Good Bye, Lenin! and Swedish vampire hit Let the Right One In. More recently, Ritter helped spearhead Bavaria's move into English-language features, representing titles such as Berlinale entry I, Anna starring Charlotte Rampling and the upcoming Mr. Morgan's Last Love with Michael Caine.
"We couldn't have had better luck," commented Beta Cinema Managing Director Dirk Schürhoff on Ritter's appointment. "Thorsten Ritter brings 13 years of experience from all domains of world sales and has an excellent reputation in the industry. He was thus the perfect candidate for us in our plan to continue expanding..especially in the acquisition of English-language films."
Ritter arrives at Beta shortly after the exit of theatrical sales and acquisitions exec Andreas Rothbauer, who resigned last month after 12 years with the company.
