BBC Commissions Hurricane Sandy Documentary
Dragonfly Film and Television, part of Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine Group, will produce the one hour special on the storm and how it affected NYC.
LONDON – Dragonfly Film and Television, part of Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine Group, has been commissioned by the BBC to produce a documentary about superstorm Sandy.
The U.K. production banner will use science based forensic analysis to work out how Hurricane Sandy happened whilst examining the consequences on the infrastructure of New York City.
The one hour documentary, Sandy: Anatomy of a Superstorm, is a Dragonfly commission by the BBC for the public broadcaster's BBC Two channel.
The documtary makers promise to blend science with moving personal testimony of those affected by the storm.
A mix of interviews with leading experts, satellite images, exclusive UGC footage, CGI and news archive will chart the path of destruction, from beginning to end, in detail not yet seen on television screens.
The documentary will air on BBC Two Sunday Nov. 18 in primetime.
Exec producers for Dragonfly are managing director Simon Dickson and head of factual entertainment Tamara Abood.
Tom McDonald is the BBC Knowledge commissioning executive producer.
Dickson said: "Our film will tell the stories of the brave New Yorkers who were caught in the eye of the storm, and whose spirited fight back has inspired the world".
Dragonfly recently delivered documentary The Plane Crash, whose 3.5 million viewers for Channel 4 made it the most watched show in the 9 p.m. slot and Terror at Sea: The Sinking of the Concordia, which attracted 3.4 million viewers on its premiere for Channel 4 before being broadcast across 20 further territories.
Dragonfly became part of Shine Group in 2007.
