BBC Commissions New Saturday Night Talent Contest
The news of 'Pitch Battle,' which aims to find the U.K.'s best singing group, follows 'The Voice' moving to ITV and 'The Great British Bake Off' moving to Channel 4.
The BBC may have lost The Voice to rival broadcaster ITV and The Great British Bake Off to Channel 4, but there's a new talent contest heading to its flagship channel.
Pitch Battle, announced Wednesday, will aim to find the U.K.'s best singing group over six hourlong episodes, with a variety of head-to-head challenges. It will be broadcast on BBC One in 2017.
The show was commissioned from indie producer Tuesday's Child by Charlotte Moore, BBC content director, and Kate Phillips, controller of entertainment commissioning.
"After a divisive, depressing 2016, we’re bringing some humour and harmony to 2017 in a contemporary new format with story, scale and spelling-binding, hairs-on-the-back-of-your neck performances," said Karen Smith, CEO of Tuesday’s Child.
