BBC's Bedell bridging units
Will leverage content on digital outlets
LONDON -- The BBC has appointed Elaine Bedell to the post of cross-platform controller of entertainment commissioning, with responsibility for all cross-platform entertainment commissions across BBC1, BBC2, BBC3 and BBC4, broadband and mobile.
Bedell will be in charge of entertainment formats, light entertainment, entertainment events and archive entertainment and will look at new and existing properties to see how they can be leveraged across different digital outlets.
She'll also look at new ways to collaborate with such units as the BBC's learning division, BBC Knowledge, to develop exciting formats and multiplatform innovation.
Commissioning editor for features and factual entertainment since 2005, Bedell has managed and commissioned such popular factual shows as "Top Gear," "The One Show" and "What Not to Wear." She takes up the new post in December
"Elaine is a strong creative figure with a great track record in entertaining, enriching programs," BBC Vision director Jana Bennett said. "Alongside the channel controllers, Elaine and her fellow commissioners will make sure the BBC seeks the best, biggest and most creative program ideas on all platforms."
