BCE Shakes Up CTV Management Ahead of Takeover
Canadian phone giant outlines post-merger CTV management structure.
TORONTO -- The BCE-era housecleaning has started at Canadian broadcaster CTV, with programming topper Susanne Boyce headed out the door next month.
Boyce and a slew of long-time execs will leave the broadcaster, along with CTV CEO Ivan Fecan, when BCE completes its $3.2 billion takeover, likely in mid-March.
The fallout from the post-merger restructuring will also see the departure of CFO John Gossling, top lobbyist Paul Sparkes and human resources topper Dawn Fell.
“Combining forces with Bell puts us in a great position to navigate today’s dynamic media landscape. This position of strength is a perfect place to launch the next chapter of this outstanding organization,” Kevin Crull, CTV’s newly-installed COO, said in an internal message to broadcast employees.
Also leaving post-merger is Alon Marcovici, executive vice president of digital media, who master-minded the online coverage of the 2010 Winter Games from Vancouver.
His departure comes as BCE, which has its own digital division, gets set to fold its online portal Sympatico into CTV’s own digital division.
BCE’s post-merger executive team will be filled by CTV sports topper Phil King and Rick Brace, in charge of specialty programming and in-house production.
Both King and Brace will split the duties held by a departing Boyce, who was long a fixture for CTV at the annual Los Angeles Screenings.
Also remaining at CTV is Rita Fabian, head of advertising sales, Wendy Freeman, in charge of news and current affairs programming, and Bart Yabsley over at content sales and distribution.
The Crull memo was short on executive titles, which are expected to be fleshed out in the coming months.
BCE expects the deal to acquire CTV will receive regulatory approval by March 7, enabling the phone giant to close the transaction in mid-March.
