Bear Grylls Returns to U.S. TV in NBC Reality Show
The network has ordered eight episodes of extreme competition show "Get Out Alive" from the former Discovery star.
After being let go last year from Discovery, British adventurer Bear Grylls will return to U.S. television in a new Survivor-esque reality show for NBC.
Get Out Alive (working title) will "test teams of two beyond their most extreme imaginations," according to NBC. The network has ordered eight episodes of the series which is set to bow next summer.
Get Out Alive is co-produced by Bear Grylls Ventures and Ben Silverman's Electus.
STORY: Discovery Terminates Relationship with Bear Grylls
"To meet Bear is to meet a force of nature,” Paul Telegdy, NBC alternative president, said in a statement. "He is a magnetic and charismatic talent, whose infectious enthusiasm for adventure inspires people to push themselves beyond their limits. These contestants are in for the ride of their lives!”
Added Grylls: “Get Out Alive will be raw, tough and unrelenting, but it will also inspire and teach the essentials that one day may just save your life. The goal is to empower people with the ultimate in both survival and teamwork, and that brings incredible reward... but first there must be some pain.”
Grylls, who has a large international following, was introduced to U.S. audiences back in 2006 on Discovery's Man vs. Wild. He has also authored multiple survival guides and has several endorsement deals, including with Dockers and Degree deodorant. But the network terminated their relationship with Grylls last March after it was allegedly unable to get Grylls to begin work on two unannounced projects for Discovery, sources told The Hollywood Reporter.
