The tributes keep coming in for the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' jump to the United States; this time, the New York Port Authority is getting in on the action.
According to Radio.com, the New York Port Authority will commemorate the anniversary of the band's debut U.S. appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show with a ceremony at the Central Terminal Area at John F. Kennedy Airport — the location of The Beatles' first U.S. press conference.
The Feb. 7 event includes the unveiling of a historical marker in the terminal remembering the band's American arrival. Port Authority executive director Pat Foye and deputy executive director Deb Gramiccioni will preside over the ceremony, a press release notes. The event will be held at 11:30 a.m. ET.
The Port Authority event is the newest of multiple events honoring the iconic band's 50th anniversary in the U.S. Surviving bandmembers Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited for a performance of "With a Little Help From My Friends" and "Hey Jude" at the Los Angeles Convention Center last week that will air on CBS Feb. 9 ("The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles"), while The Late Show With David Letterman is currently featuring a week of shows dedicated to The Beatles, with Broken Bells, Sting, the Flaming Lips and Lenny Kravitz part of the festivities.
The band also reconvened — somewhat — during a performance at the Grammys last week, playing McCartney's "Queenie Eye."
