'Bel Ami' With Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman Gets World Premiere in Berlin

Steven Soderbergh’s "Haywire," starring Michael Fassbender and Ewan McGregor, is also among the films in the festival's lineup.
BERLIN -- Bel Ami, the period drama starring Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson with Uma Thurman, will have its world premiere out of competition at the Berlin International Film Festival.
The drama, the feature debut of Brit directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, is based on a novel by French writer Guy de Maupassant and is the story of a young man’s rise to power in Paris. Christina Ricci, Kristin Scott Thomas and Colm Meaney also star.
Steven Soderbergh’s action thriller Haywire, featuring Michael Fassbender, Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor and Channing Tatum, is also heading to Berlin, for a special gala screening in what will be its German premiere.
Filling out Berlin’s competition lineup are Nikolaj Arcel’s Danish epic A Royal Affair, starring Mads Mikkelsen; Canadian drama Rebelle, from director Kim Nguyen; and French film Coming Home from Frederic Videau.
Berlin also upped the red carpet quotient with two star-studded productions tha are screening out of competition: the martial arts drama Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, starring Jet Li, and James Marsh’s Shadow Dancer, with Clive Owen, Andrea Riseborough and Gillian Anderson.
The full Berlin lineup will be announced in the coming weeks. The 62nd Berlinale runs Feb. 9-19.
