Belgacom's Didier Bellens stays put

CEO will take a $1.5 mil pay cut

BRUSSELS -- Didier Bellens, embattled CEO of cable, telecom and digital TV company Belgacom, is staying in his post but taking a $1.5 million pay cut, the company's board said Friday.

Bellens, at Belgacom's helm since 2003, will still earn $2.5 million after negotiations with the board and the federal government, which holds a 53% share in Belgacom.

Bellens was criticized after Belgacom was sidelined during cable rival Telenet's $672 million takeover of four local cable companies.
