Actor-singer Jared Leto sent a message of condolence to the families and friends of the six people who reportedly died as a result of a stage collapse at the Belgian music festival Pukkelpop.

Leto's band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, was scheduled to play at the event before the accident, which also left many others injured, the BBC reported.

"Our deepest thoughts and sympathies to the families and friends of those who lost their lives today at the show in Belgium," Leto tweeted Thursday. "We are absolutely devastated that this celebration ended in tragedy. To those that were injured we are sending thoughts and prayers."

Leto added that the band has canceled its performance at the festival in Hasselt, Belgium, "out of respect for those who have passed."

A sudden storm caused a tent where the American band Smith Westerns played, or was about to play, to collapse. Ambulances the arrived to take the injured to local hospitals, and the rest of Thursday's festival was canceled.

Wrote Smith Westerns on Twitter: "Stage collapsed max almost got crushed by the tress, I hope pukkelpop has insurance bc all our [stuff] is broke."

In addition to 30 Seconds and Smith Westerns, the annual festival's lineup this year includes many American artists, including Eminem, Foo Fighters and Rise Against.

The collapse follows a similar incident this month at the Indiana State Fair, where a stage collapse before a Sugarland concert killed five people.
