Benedict Cumberbatch to be Honored at 2013 Britannia Awards

BAFTA L.A.'s annual awards event will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday, Nov. 9.

Benedict Cumberbatch will be honored at the 2013 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The 37-year-old British actor, whose credits include BBC's Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness and War Horse, will receive the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year.

The award pays tribute to a British artist whose outstanding performances in a year have demonstrated the high quality of their craftsmanship. Previous recipients include Daniel Craig, Kate Winslet, Tilda Swinton, Helena Bonham Carter, Emily Blunt, Michael Sheen and Rachel Weisz.

Cumberbatch has several films set for release. He'll play Julian Assange in the upcoming WikiLeaks story The Fifth Estate, and he'll also appear in Steve McQueen's buzzy awards film 12 Years a Slave. He also voices the dragon Smaug in the final two Hobbit films.

As previously announced, George Clooney will receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film; Kathryn Bigelow will receive the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing; and Sir Ben Kingsley will receive the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment.

The show will be broadcast on BBC America on Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. ET.
