Berkeley Square Films launched in London
U.K.-based production, finance and sales bannerLONDON -- Writer/producer/director Paul Tamasy ("Air Bud"), independent film producer and financier Daniel Figuero ("The Bunker") and London and Hong Kong-based venture capital managers Justin Howard, Stephen Metcalfe and John Tibbs have teamed to set up U.K.-based production, finance and sales banner Berkeley Square Films.
Based in the British capital, the company aims to focus on commercial film and television projects budgeted at up to $7 million, the parties said Wednesday.
"Star Wars" actor Mark Hamill will sit on the company's board of directors in his present capacity as a multi-hyphenate movie maker. Hamill and William Morris Endeavor's Graham Taylor will be based in Los Angeles, giving the British banner a presence across the pond.
Backers said the company aims to announce an initial slate of projects during the upcoming Festival de Cannes.
The company is launching with a U.K. share offer to a hedge fund and several undisclosed high net worth individuals. It will also take on co-production and financing partners on a project-by-project basis.
Hamill said in a statement to support the launch: "We are looking to make commercially viable films for the indy world -- an area which has generally been ignored and a source of great contention in the festival circuit. BSF will have three such projects out of the gate and more in the works, all of which are branded with a strong commercial hook."
The sales and marketing operation will handle BSF productions as well as third-party projects.
