Berlin 2012: Eli Roth-Starrer 'Aftershock' Bought for Canada by VVS Films

The Canadian distributor picked up four movies at the European Film Market, including the Shia LaBeouf-starring actioner 'The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman.'

TORONTO — Indie distributor VVS Films has taken the Canadian rights to the Eli Roth-starring Aftershock, in which the horror helmer performs opposite Selena Gomez.

The Nicolas Lopez-directed earthquake thriller is one of four films either prebought or acquired by VVS Films at the European Film Market.

Also prebought for Canada is the Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood starrer The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman from Voltage Productions and Bona Fide Productions.

Fredrik Bond is directing the pulp romance action picture, based on a Black List script by Matt Drake.

Necessary Death is set to shoot in Eastern Europe in May.

VVS Films also acquired from IM Global the Jean-Claude Van Damme-starring actioner Enemies Closer, directed by Peter Hyams.

And Lionsgate sold to the Canadian distributor Pawn Shop Chronicles, director Wayne Kramer’s hillbilly action-comedy from Mimran Schur Pictures that stars Paul Walker (Fast Five).
