Focus Features Boards Mike Leigh’s J.M.W. Turner Biopic
Mike Leigh’s J.M.W. Turner biopic has found a home. Focus Features International has picked up worldwide rights to the film and will co-finance with BFI and Film4. FFI co-president Alison Thompson will commence sales on the film at the Cannes International Film Festival in May.
Jessica Alba Lined up for Weightless
Jessica Alba is in final negotiations to star in Weightless, an original screenplay from Oscar nominated writer Milo Addica (Monster’s Ball), which will mark the scribe’s first outing in the director’s chair. Myriad Pictures is shopping pre-sales to buyers on the project, which will see Alba play the picture’s lead, a U.S. astronaut.
Southern Europe Drags Down Box Office
Sellers at the EFM are hoping for an end to the ongoing Euro crisis and its impact on box office revenues and market confidence had them dashed by fresh numbers released by the European Audiovisual Observatory Feb. 8. The numbers show that Southern Europe is still dragging the continent down and the research will be unwelcome to Hollywood and US indie players in Berlin and conjures a less than buoyant mood for market attendees at the EFM.Click Here for the Day 1 'Daily'
