Katz will direct from a script written by E.L. Katz, based on an original idea by Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza (creators of the [REC] franchise).
Inspired by actual scientific research that suggests evil may live within our very own genetic code, The Unholy follows a group of cutting-edge scientists who believe they can link evil to a specific human gene. When they are recruited by the Vatican to spearhead a new global initiative to examine candidates for official exorcisms, supernatural forces threaten both faith and science in a battle of good versus evil.
Gold Circle’s Paul Brooks is producing. Gold Circle COO Scott Niemeyer and Guy Danella are executive producing alongside Adrian Guerra, Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza.
Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love, Elizabeth) was most recently a regular on FX and Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Asylum.
Baccarin, from Joss Whedon's Firefly and Serenity, is currently a regular on Showtime's award-winning hit series Homeland.
Katz's directing credits include the award-winning HBO film Taking Chance. He also produced Lost in Translation and In the Bedroom.
Fiennes is repped by WME and Anonymous Content; Baccarin is repped by UTA and Seven Summits. Ross Katz is repped by CAA and Management 360; and E.L. Katz is repped by Gersh and Generate.
