Matt Damon and director Gus van Sant's professional relationship goes back to the birth of Damon's career as a screenwriter and leading man, with Good Will Hunting in 1997, for which Damon won the Academy Awards with Ben Affleck for best screenplay.

Damon reunited with van Sant in 2002, writing and staring in the survival-drama Gerry. The two have partnered again this year -- with the help of co-writer John Krasinski -- for Promised Land, a subtle drama about the effects of fracking on a small Pennsylvania town.

The film, which also stars Frances McDormand, Krasinski, Rosemarie DeWitt and Hal Holbrook, premiered at Sundance in January and is having its international premiere in competition at the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival this week.
