Berlin: Ben Kingsley Joins Bruce Willis in 'Wake'
John Pogue is directing the indie action thriller.
Ben Kingsley has joined the cast of action thriller Wake opposite Bruce Willis.
John Pogue (The Quiet Ones) will direct the film for producers Michael Benaroya (Margin Call), Tobin Armbrust (Begin Again), David Alpert (The Walking Dead) and Chris Cowles (The Numbers Station). Pogue is set to start shooting Feb. 15 in Cleveland.
Wake tells the story of Red Forrester (Willis), a sociopath who returns to the remote island where he grew up to attend his brother's wake. When the island comes under siege, he must save the very family who banished him years earlier. Kingsley will play the villain who leads the siege.
Kingsley's casting further elevates the project, which is being shopped to foreign buyers at Berlin's European Film Market by International Film Trust. CAA is representing domestic rights. It's not the only film Kingsley has in Berlin; Terrence Malick's Knight of Cups makes its world premiere at the festival on Feb. 9.
"Sir Ben is a truly one-of-a-kind talent, with a unique subtlety to his work. He brings characters to life and charges them with emotion and power at just the right moments. He's a tremendous addition to this cast, I can't wait to see what he does with Kole, this film's powerful antagonist," Benaroya said in a statement.
Kingsley, who is repped by CAA, has starred in more than 100 films. His most recent credits include The Boxtrolls, nominated for an Oscar for best animated film, and Iron Man 3. He also stars in the indie drama Learning to Drive, which made its premiere at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival.
