Berlin: Berlinale Market Adds TV

Netflix
'House of Cards'

The Berlin Film Festival this year did a special screening for Netflix' 'House of Cards'

In a further sign that television truly is the new cinema, Berlin's European Film Market (EFM) and the Berlinale co-production market, the co-financing and co-production forum held during the Berlin International Film Festival, have announced they are opening their doors to small-screen productions, starting next year.

Creators and producers of TV series, as well as buyers and sellers, will be able to take part in the 2015 EFM while TV producers can take part in the co-production market, which runs Feb.9-10. The co-pro market is collaborating together with Forum des Images, organizers of the Parisian international TV festival Series Mania, for the TV side of the Berlin event.

The Berlin Film Festival has already acknowledged the importance of high-end TV. In its official line-up this year, Berlin held a special screening of the first two episodes of Netflix-produced series House of Cards.
