The Hollywood Reporter released its second Berlin Film Festival daily issue, featuring a look at the future of EuropaCorp, a chat with John Michael McDonagh about War on Everyone starring Michael Pena and Alexander Skarsgard, and a first look at Bel Powley as calculating single girl Carrie Pilby.
EuropaCorp: On the Auction Block?
The abrupt exit of Christophe Lambert as CEO of Luc Besson’s growing Paris-based major EuropaCorp has raised eyebrows in both Europe and the U.S. While EuropaCorp and Besson offered the standard praise for their outgoing leader, sources — almost all surprised by the news — have hinted that his exit could be linked to events going on behind the scenes at a studio with grand international ambitions.
John Michael McDonagh's "Jet Black Comedy"
War on Everyone is the London-born writer-director's latest film and stars Michael Pena and Alexander Skarsgard as corrupt cops out to blackmail every criminal they meet. He spoke to THR about going all Michael Bay (but with a mariachi band), the role alcohol plays in his casting process and why he'll never work in TV.
THR unveiled a first-look image of Carrie Pilby, which stars Diary of a Teenage Girl breakout Bel Powley as a book-smart woman who attempts to find love in New York by using a checklist. Radiant Films International is selling the YA adaptation, which also stars Nathan Lane and Gabriel Byrne.
