Berlin: Geoffrey Rush To Paint Stanley Tucci’s ‘Final Portrait’
HanWay films will be introducing the film to buyers in Berlin.
Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush will take the lead as Swiss painter and sculptor Alberto Giacometti in Final Portrait, which will be introduced to buyers at the European Film Market. Stanley Tucci is set to direct in his first major feature as helmer since 2007’s Blind Date, working from his own script based on A Giacometti Portrait by the artist’s friend, the American critic James Lord.
Gail Egan, Potboiler Productions, Ilann Girard, Fred Hogg and Olive Productions are producing, while HanWay will be taking the film to Berlin. CAA are repping for the U.S.
"I am thrilled to bring this story of Giacometti and his dear friend James Lord to the screen based on one of the great books of our time," said Tucci in a statement. "I cannot imagine anyone better to play the extraordinary artist than the extraordinary Geoffrey Rush."
HanWay Films' Thorsten Schumacher said the story was "undeniably charming," describing Giacometti and Lord as "the Odd Couple of their time."
"Stanley Tucci has written a wonderfully nuanced script and will bring out the warmth and energy between these two great actors in their performance," he added.
