Berlin: M. Shawn Crahan's 'Officer Downe' Finds Financing

The Slipknot co-founder is directing the adaptation of Joe Casey and Chris Burnham's graphic novel.

The live-action film adaptation of Joe Casey and Chris Burnham's graphic novel Officer Downe is moving forward, with Life Out Loud Films coming aboard to finance and Nicolas Chartier's Voltage Pictures launching the project to international buyers this week at Berlin's European Film Market.

CAA brokered the financing deal and will represent domestic rights. Mark Neveldine and Skip Williamson, who teamed on Crank, are producing Officer Downe alongside Cole Payne and Casey, who wrote the adapted script.

Slipknot co-founder and drummer M. Shawn Crahan will direct the movie about a one-of-a-kind police officer who can't be stopped by death, returning to the streets time and time again. Crahan, who has directed many of the heavy-metal band's music videos, comes with plenty of fans: Slipknot has garnered more than 250 million views on YouTube.

"Very excited to dive back into badass muscular cinema akin to what we did in Crank. With Shawn steering the ship and the subversive insanity of the world Joe created, we'll have something unforgettable," said Neveldine and Williamson in a statement.

Production is set to begin in March.
