Berlin: Rob L. Cohen to Direct Jewelry Heist Thriller 'Risk'
The movie is being sold by Belgian film giant uMedia's sales division and is out to cast with a summer 2014 shoot set.
Berlin – Filmmaker Rob L. Cohen, whose directing resume boasts The Fast and The Furious and XXX, will helm action heist thriller Risk.
The project, slated to go into production in the summer of 2014, is being hawked to buyers during the EFM by Belgian film group uMedia’s international sales division, under the watchful eye of group CEO Adrian Politowski.
The film follows a talented thief who is released early from prison for one reason only: to execute a nearly impossible, once-in-a-lifetime art heist.
Reluctant to follow the same path that put him in jail in the first place, he is drawn into a dangerous triangle between his crime boss and his accomplice in crime -- a beautiful, mysterious woman whose motives remain unclear until the explosive ending.
The script by Eric Harlacher is out to agents and cast now.
Politowski and uMedia’s Karl Richards will produce the picture with Tim Kwok, Ksana Golod and George Parra, whose producing credits include American Hustle, Nebraska and Silver Linings Playbook.
"I've always wanted to make a sophisticated caper-thriller in the style of Topkapi, To Catch a Thief and The Hot Rock, with smart characters and sexy European backgrounds," said Cohen. "When I read the script of Risk, I knew this was it."
uMedia group combines the activities of production and financing, VFX, international sales and Benelux distribution.
The company is also developing Priceless, a remake of the French movie starring Audrey Tautou.
The English-language remake will be directed by Thomas Bezucha (The Family Stone) and is greenlit. Production is scheduled for summer 2014.
