Bernd Eichinger Memorial Set for Feb. 7
The German producer, behind the "Resident Evil" and "Fantastic Four" franchises, suffered a fatal heart attack last week in Los Angeles.
COLOGNE, Germany -- A memorial service for German producer Bernd Eichinger will be held Feb. 7 in the historic St. Michael Church in Munich, Eichinger’s production house Constantin Film announced Tuesday.
The producer, whose long list of credits includes The Name of the Rose, Downfall and the Resident Evil and Fantastic Four franchises, suffered a fatal heart attack last week in Los Angeles.
His death was a shock to the German industry, which he did much to build.
A day after the ceremony, the CinemaxX movie house in Munich will host a one-day Eichinger film marathon, screening some of the filmmaker’s most popular films, including The NeverEnding Story, Smilla’s Sense of Snow and Last Exit to Brooklyn.
Admission will be free but visitors will be asked to donate to “Artists for Kids,” Eichinger’s Munich-based youth charity.
