Berlin 2013: Beta Closes Sales on 'The Physician,' 'Devil's Violinist'
Buyers also pounce on Beta's Brit tragicomedy "Still Life" and German family film franchise "The Famous Five".
BERLIN - Beta Cinema has gotten its European Film Market off to a strong start, closing multiple-territory deals for Philip Stoelzl's medieval adventure epic The Physician starring Tom Payne, Ben Kingsley and Stellan Skarsgard, and music biopic The Devil's Violinist featuring classical music star David Garrett.
The Physician, which Universal will bow in German theaters this Christmas, pre-sold to Russia (Luxor), the Czech Republic/Slovakia (Bonton), the former Yugoslavia (Blitz) and to the Middle East (Italia Film).

Bernard Rose's The Devil's Violinist closed with the same buyers as well as selling to Frenetic for Switzerland.
Other titles generating buyer interest on Beta's EFM slate were Umberto Pasolini’s British tragicomedy Still Life, starring Eddie Marsan and Joanne Froggatt, which went to WildBunch for Benelux; German family films The Famous Five 1 and 2, which Flins&Piniculas took for Spain and Andrzej Jakimowski’s Imagine, which P&I Films bought for release in Russia.
