Bethenny Frankel Talk Show Getting National Launch on Fox Stations
UPDATED: After a successful six-week test run on Fox stations, the former "Real Housewives of New York" star will be launched in syndication in 2013 by Warner Bros.
Bethenny, the talk show fronted by former Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel, will get a full national rollout in 2013 after a test run over the summer on six Fox stations.
Warner Bros. has sold the show to the Fox stations, which will carry it in the biggest U.S. markets, according to an announcement Monday by Frank Cicha, senior vice president of programming, FOX Television Stations, and Ken Werner, president, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.
Bethenny will be produced by Telepictures Productions and A Very Good Production, Ellen DeGeneres’ production company. Frankel herself confirmed the pick up of the show last week in an appearance on the Ellen Show, she said the show was a go. Ellen added: , “We are not going to give a lot of details, because we can’t, but it is safe to say she will be on television soon. The television show will be back on the air.”
Frankel and DeGeneres toasted to the new show with a cocktail made of Skinnygirl tangerine vodka. Skinnygirl is one of the brands that Frankel has developed and markets.
“Hosting a talk show this summer and connecting with women every day made me realize that I have found my true passion,” said Frankel on Monday. “My heartfelt thanks go out to my dedicated fans who tuned in and helped make this great opportunity happen.”
Bethenny is the latest in a series of talk shows that have been tested by Fox in recent years. One of those, The Wendy Williams Show, was tested in 2008 which led to its launch in syndication. It has recently entered its fourth season on the air.
Bethenny did even better in its test run, outperforming Williams test, especially among the key demographic group for a daytime talk show, women 25 to 54 years of age. This one-hour daily talk show debuted in June 2012 on FOX-owned stations in New York (WNYW), Los Angeles (KTTV), Philadelphia (WTXF), Dallas (KDFW), Phoenix (KSAZ) and Minneapolis (KMSP).
Across all six markets, according to Warner Bros., it improved on May 2012 time periods by +80 percent in W25-54 and +100 percent in A25-54, and ranging from +22 percent in Philadelphia to a +100 percent in Dallas to a high of +250 percent in Los Angeles.
After being sold to FOX Television Stations, Bethenny will debut on 17 FOX-owned stations, including, New York (WNYW), Los Angeles (KTTV), Chicago (WFLD), Philadelphia (WTXF), Dallas (KDFW), Boston (WFXT), Atlanta (WAGA), D.C. (WTTG), Houston (KRIV), Detroit (WJBK), Phoenix (KSAZ), Tampa (WTVT), Minneapolis (KMSP), Orlando (WOFL), Memphis (WHBQ), Austin (KTBC) and Ocala (WOGX).
“This summer’s test proves Bethenny has a distinctive unique appeal that woman flock to. No matter the time period or city, with no off air support, and in the middle of the summer, daytime viewers made Bethenny Frankel appointment TV. We always believed that Bethenny had the talent, popularity and credibility with daytime viewers to become appointment television and are thrilled to be bringing her to the rest of the country,” said Werner, President.
Hilary Estey McLoughlin, President, Telepictures Productions, added, “Bethenny was born to do this. She has such a distinctive point of view and is so real, honest, funny and relatable and her life and professional experience offer a great foundation for the talk show. She has rabid fans who can't get enough of her and they showed up this summer for the test and will follow her anywhere. Bethenny will continue to connect with the daytime audience with a positive, fun, inspirational, informational and entertaining talk show.”
Bethenny will enter a crowded talk show arena which will include several shows that launched earlier in September, including Katie, with Katie Couric and Steve Harvey, as well as the many other existing shows such as Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz and Anderson, which is also from Warner Bros.
Another contender for time on stations in the fall will be a talk show with Queen Latifah, which Sony Pictures Television is expected to begin selling this fall.
