Beyonce, Jay-Z Release First Statement After Birth of Child

Jay-Z kicked off his two-night show at the Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall on Monday night with a stellar show and plenty of stars in the audience. The brightest star was his wife, who wore an Alice by Temperley dress and Christian Louboutin heels.

Jay-Z opened the show with a dramatic entrance, reciting his famous line “allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is Hov," into the mic while he walked onstage. Backed by a 36-piece orchestra and wearing a tuxedo, Jay-Z performed such hits as “NY State of Mind,” and “If I Ruled the World (Imagine That).” The new father also performed his song dedicated to Blue Ivy Carter, “Glory,” live for the first time.

The proceeds from the charity shows go to the United Way of New York City and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation, which help low-income students cover college costs.

Backing up Jay-Z were Alicia Keys and Nas onstage, along with Questlove of The Roots and singer Bilal in the band. Jay-Z kept it casual onstage, strutting around with a champagne bottle that he claimed was “just tea.”

Among the many patrons who has purchased the pricey benefit tickets – which ran from $1,500 to $5,000 and boxes starting at $15,000 -- were Liza Minnelli and New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia.

After the show, Jay-Z and Beyonce headed to 40/40 for the afterparty.
