Beyonce's Stylist Marni Senofonte Collaborates With Barbie
America's favorite doll gets a Victorian punk makeover.
Beyonce's stylist, Marni Senofonte, has been working with another Queen B as of late: Barbie.
The wardrobe wizard behind the Lemonade visual album on HBO and the Formation World Tour has collaborated with Mattel, the El Segundo, California-based company that introduced the Barbie doll in 1959, on one-of-a-kind looks for the Barbie Fashionistas dolls, which come in four body types (original, curvy, tall and petite) with multiple skin tones and hair styles.
"Born to an independent, entrepreneurial woman, and having built a career working with some of the most important female architects of pop culture, Barbie's 'I can do anything and be anything' spirit has always been inside of me," said Senofonte.
The looks, which aren't for sale but were made for promotional purposes and released on Barbie's Instagram account, incorporate Senofonte's statement-making aesthetic, from a denim cape paired with a mini skirt and over-the-knee socks to a turtleneck crop top with wide-legged jeans that expose fishnet tights underneath.
"To me, denim has always been America's fabric, durable enough to build a young nation. I like twisting up the functionality of something ordinarily rendered for practicality and turning it into something whimsical and luxurious," Senofonte explained. "Denim transcends its stereotype, which is why I use it so often in styling — it is masculine and feminine, as well as being both compliant and rebellious!"
The stylist noted that she was influenced by Victorian Punk for the overall vibe.
"Victorian punk was brewing inside of me since I wrapped the costumes for The Formation World Tour and the Lemonade project, both of which were heavily influenced by Antebellum/Victorian dress," she said. "I guess the nonconformist in me naturally manifested Victorian into Victorian punk and Barbie wears it well!"
Images of Senofonte's designs were revealed Thursday on the @barbiestyle account, which boasts 1.7 million followers and showcases Barbie's never-ending clothing choices — not unlike Bey.
