BFI, Amex ink partnership deal

Including as headline sponsor for the BFI London Film Festival

LONDON -- The British Film Institute sealed a multi-year partnership deal with American Express and in the process secured a headline sponsor for its flagship annual movie event, the BFI London Film Festival.

While no financial details for the arrangement were disclosed, the partnership deal comes as a fillip amid government funding cuts tightening purse strings at the BFI.

The length of the deal is also not being disclosed.

The partnership will also support quarterly screenings at the BFI IMAX and the acclaimed "Screen Epiphanies" series at BFI Southbank where personalities from the world of stage and screen introduce and discuss films that inspired them personally or professionally.

BFI director Amanda Nevill said: "Over 58% of the BFI's total funding is self-generated and in the current economic climate private sponsors and donors have never been so important.
