AccessIT's alternative entertainment division, the Bigger Picture, has announced the first animated projects scheduled to be produced specifically for its Kidtoon Films theatrical matinee program.

The features include an untitled project based on the Atari video game franchise "Backyard Sports," which is set for a spring 2008 release, and movies based on John Lithgow's children's books "Micawber" and "Marsupial Sue."

Kidtoon Films is offered through AccessIT's network of digital cinema system equipped theaters.

Sabella Dern Entertainment is the producer of the projects, and the Bigger Picture will distribute through Kidtoon.

Kidtoon also hopes to offer a series of animated shorts based on the features in its matinee program.

The Bigger Picture has been distributing alternative content "channels" to AccessIT theater partners. These include Kidtoon Films, an Anime program, Fox Faith, Fox Rhythm and a new program of concerts from the SXSW music festival.

The goal is to offer programming to build boxoffice sales for off-peak times and to attract underserved audiences. The Bigger Picture hopes to continue to acquire new content, with the goal of providing 50 channels in five years to its digital cinema partners.
