Searches for “Bill Cosby Dead” and “RIP Bill Cosby” flooded the Internet this week, resulting in trending topics on Google and Twitter, as well as a series of Facebook pages in the comedian’s memory. Though Cosby has personally remained active on Twitter, posting several good-natured jokes about his classic sweaters circa The Cosby Show era, fans have continued to search for information regarding his purported demise.
This marks the fifth time that Cosby has been the subject of an Internet death hoax. Cosby spoke with CNN about the subject in 2010, saying, “Maybe a psychiatrist will say I'm feeding [the originator’s] ego, but I just want to say to friends of that person: Just tell him to stop, because it isn’t funny.”

Several other stars have been subjected to similar rumors over the past weeks, including Bill Nye, Rihanna and Eddie Murphy. All are, in fact, alive and well.
